St. Mary's Messenger wouldn't be possible without many contributions of software and artwork from generous people online. Here are a few of these people. We don't present their sites for our children readers (particularly the artwork sites), but adults may find useful resources here, as we have.
Software (all free and libre/open source)
- This site is mostly coded using Vim, the best text editor on the planet.
- Most of the site is powered by Joomla!, a magnificent Content Management System which rests on PHP, MySQL, and (in this case) Linux.
- Graphic work is done using the GIMP and (preferably) Inkscape.
- When it comes time to use a browser, Firefox, with the essential plugins AdBlock Plus, Firebug, and Vimperator, is the tool of choice.
Artwork
- We're particularly grateful for the amazing Wikimedia Foundation, and the millions of images they're helping to make freely available.
- Another excellent collection is OpenClipArt.
Site Themes
Fall 2009 (current)
- Theme design by Bill Powell.
- Leaf, pumpkin, and cloud images courtesy of various artists on OpenClipArt.
Spring 2009
- Theme design by Bill Powell.
- Theme inspired by "Hedges" by Kev Mears.
- Border pattern designed by Travis Beckham.
- Clouds, pink flower, and grass from various artists on OpenClipArt.
